Mother's Day

bear.jpg My sister and I gave this pretty bear to our mother last year on Mother's Day. The reason why we bought it is that this bear is made of artificial carnation. My mother was glad to get it and we felt happy.

I don't remember what I gave my mother on Mother's Day last year, but I'm sure that I gave her something.

By the way, do you know the origin of Mother's Day? It started in the U.S.A. and it had religious meaning. I don't know who introduced the idea of Mother's Day to Japan, but now it is one of the important events in Japan. I think it is Japanese character to allow other cultures come in so easily. We have Shogatsu (Shinto), Bon festival (Buddhism), Christmas (Christianity) and so on. Though I enjoy all these events, sometimes I think it a little strange to have these different kinds of events.

Never mind the pink text, here's a page on
The Origin of Mother's Day in The United States.

The doll is very pretty. I remember that I gave my mother a carnation when I was 10 years old. It cost me 400 yen to buy the flower, which was a lot of money. Though my allowance had gone, I was happy to see my mother smiling.

The bear you gave your mother is so pretty. Also, I was surprised it was made of carnation.

Today I bought a pair of gloves for mother's day. The gloves are not against the cold, but against sunburn during driving. I hope my mother will like them. Have you decided on a present for this year's mother's day?
