Madou Spa

Tonight I happened to watch a TV program about Madou spa in Tsu city. This weekend, the English Department is going there to hold a welcome party for the freshmen.
What is Madou spa? Madou spa is a Japanese-style hotel famous for its caves, which are used as a dining area. These caves have an interesting history. According to the program, in Edo period there was no modern-style detergent to wash teacups or pans. The caves were dug to get a sandy cleanser which was fairly precious in those days.
The cleanser is still sold today.
The party at the onsen was lots of fun.
The place was recently redone with plenty of new, fresh wood, particularly in the bath area. The front desk building has been redecorated as well and now sports extra woody bits such as traditional little roofs -- which look tacky but smell nice.
Maybe there's also a new management.
There were definitely more visitors than in previous years, which was probably due to the renovation. The TV programme Masami-san mentioned may have been about that renovation and may have helped attract a few more guests.
Masami-san has the spa's official link (which I couldn't find because I'm a bit limited that way) -- there should be a map there.
OK, thanks Ruedi-sensei, and nice picture Masami-san. I will try to visit the place.
Madou-spa is in Handa in Tsu, but I can't describe well where exactly it is, so please look at this map. Also: this page shows you the route to Madou with pictures. Both of these pages are in Japanese, however.
As Ruedi says, Madou spa has been renovated, especially
the bath area which now has a very nice smell of cypress wood. The other day, I took a bath both at night and in the morning.
Their dishes are also delicious! In its caves, we had a kind of barbecue which included beef, vegetables, and shellfish etc. You can also enjoy nabe, but only in winter.
Last week I enjoyed myself very much at Madou spa. I hope you'll enjoy it too, at least as a web page.

Wow! Looks like a neat place! Can you tell me exactly where this is? In Tsu, but where? Do you have some more information about this place? Do they serve only Japanese food? I will be checking on your information.
