The Mie Journal

A WEBLOG MADE IN JAPAN

Music Life

Yamaha I belong to the Light Music Club in Mie University and form a band. My band is composed of four members (guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums). As all of our songs are instrumental, there are no vocals.

I took piano lessons from 3 years old till 15. I make the most use of the experience now that I play the keyboard, but the keyboard is quite different from the piano. The piano has only one tone, but the keyboard has many tones and many sound effects. I have to use those tones suitably and be careful with the volume. It is most important that we keep a balanced sound and adjust to each other’s volume.

My keyboard is made by Yamaha. Maybe Yamaha is the most famous musical instrument manufacturer. In terms of sound quality, the keyboards made by them are superior to other keyboards, but they’re also heavier than other keyboards.

Now my band is making new songs to play at the university festival. We will play five songs at the festival. Of course all songs are our originals! We play at room 1111 in Jyuujikousha.

I look forward to playing our songs in front of many people!

I should be in town during the university festival weekend, so I might be able to come. Which day are you playing, November 5 or 6? What is the name of your band?

Also, because I’m curious: what kind of music do you play? Could you mention a few artists you enjoy listening to?

My favorite artists are Glay. They are a very famous and popular Japanese rock band. My favorite keyboardist is Yuta Saito. He often plays for other musicians, especially live.

The name of my band is Asty Free. We play rock music, especially instrumental.

If you can come to the University Festival, please come and listen to our set! We are going to play on Nomember 6.

Hey—I’ve just discovered that you’ve got a weblog in Japanese.

What made you start it?

Okay—I’m impressed. That was a very compact and professional-sounding set. There’s a reason why they billed you as the final act of the event: you’re much better musicians than the other bands—congratulations!

Here’s a few more photos taken at the festival, including this one (click on “All Sizes” immediately above the images for the original high-resolution shots and feel free to download them for safekeeping).

Thank you for visiting our live. This was the second time ASTY FREE performed a live concert. This time many more people attend a concert than I expected. At the beginning of our stage, I was so strained that I could not play well. But gradually I enjoyed the atmosphere and I was so excited.

This live I used two keyboards, one is made by Yamaha that I introduced before. The other one is made by Roland. This is my new keyboard. It can synthesize many tones. I want to be using it efficiently.

Thank you for taking so many pictures. I saved them on my computer.

No problem. I see that you’ve re-posted one of my photos. A little note about copyright: if you look under “Additional information” to the right of the photo, you will find a note that says “Some rights reserved”. This is different from the usual copyright statement, which says “All rights reserved”. Click on the (CC) symbol and you will get to the licensing agreement that states which rights I reserve and that governs your re-use of my work. Under the terms of this license, you are free to use any of my photos in pretty much any way you want on condition that you “attribute” them, which means that you should give me credit for having taken any picture that you re-use. On the Web, this means that you should link to me (something like “Photo by ark” would do nicely).
