Camping

I went camping on August 4th and 5th with the students of the English Department. I enjoyed it a lot though the weather was terribly bad. The tropical cyclone suddenly turned into a typhoon and it hit the Kii Peninsula. While we were enjoying the barbecue at the outdoor kitchen, it continued raining heavily and the wind blew strongly. The campsite was next to the beach, so the wind was extremely strong.

Usually, the sophomores are in charge of preparing the meals.

I have a few questions for you.
First, an embarassing question. I have lived in Mie for almost a year now, but I haven’t spent very much time looking at maps and learning about the area. Where/what is the Kii peninsula?
Second, I’m always interested in the ocean, so since you were near the beach during a typhoon, did you see any big waves? Was anyone trying to surf there?
The Kii Peninsula is where we live :-) Mie, Nara, Wakayama and a part of Osaka are set in the peninsula. On this map, you will see a peninsula where the cities such as Asuka, Tsu and Wakayama are set. That’s the Kii Peninsula!
Just before the typhoon hit where we were, I took a walk on the bank of the sea. It was very windy, and I could see big waves. A few people were bodyboarding and some were windsurfing. I was surprised and thought they were brave to go into the sea on such a day…
Oh! I don’t even know where I live; how embarassing! Thanks for explaining that to me.
By the way, I went surfing at Kou Beach (near where Oli lives) today. The wind was strong, the rain was so heavy it hurt, and the surf was lumpy and bumpy. Maybe today was similar to the day you went camping!

Yeah, I also enjoyed camping very much, but bad weather makes me uncomfortable. I think the weather of this camp was worse than that of any other previous camp:(
