Club Activities

In this school, handball, tennis, baseball, soccer and softball players practice outside under the burning sun. Basketball, volleyball and pingpong players as well as kendo and judo fighters practice inside enduring the humidity and the heat. Brassband practices for the concert all day long with admirable concentration. Every time I go to see my students exercising, I admire them. How hard they practice! How much energy they have! What wonderful students I have!

When you become a teacher, you will admire many abilities in your students. You may notice that they are much greater than you in many respects.

I like the zen archers best because they’re the least noisy :-|

Are these club activities still mandatory throughout high school, or just junior high?

Looked at from a distance, the combined impact of cram schools and club activites seems to be an amazing amount of social regimentation.

Well, in this high school, students don’t have to belong to clubs. I suppose most junior high students have to.

Players here look very nice and genki, and they make me cheerful too. And it makes me feel that students who belong to clubs tend to be politer than those who do not.

Hi, I’m Simona a 23 yo italian girl. I think it’s good that in japanese schools there are so many clubs and sports. In fact, in Italy, we haven’t those in our schools. We can play some sports during the physical education class but that’s all. If we want play some sports, we have to go in some gymnasium of our city.
In my school there was only a journalism club (but it was really at a low level) and a volley club (low level).
So, I think japenese people is really lucky! ^-^

Sorry for my english! ^^
